History of VAPA

Prior to 1970, planners in Virginia were organized as a section of the American Institute of Planner’s (AIP) National Capital Chapter, which also included Washington, D.C. and Maryland. In 1970, a statewide AIP Chapter was formed for Virginia. APA was established in 1978 with the merger of AIP and the American Society of Planning Officials (ASPO). Listed below are the Presidents that have guided the Chapter since 1970.
